About Us

However, I eventually saw the benefit of womxn from all backgrounds celebrating their similarities and honoring their differences together. We just have to learn how to do it in a way that doesn’t tear down others. It is my hope that Shades of Womxn and the Sister Friend Program will help with that process.

Shades of Womxn is my love letter to rich hues and glistening shades. When I initially started with the idea of Shades of Womxn, it was my love letter to black womxn and black womxn only. After all I am a black womxn.

Regarding my use of the word womxn. While I realize the controversy surrounding the word, I truly believe that the intention behind words is what makes them so powerful.

So with that said, I want to make my intentions clear. Women are women, period. Womxn, is used in reference to a collective of women (cis, femme, trans or any person who identifies with the feminine experience) who have come together to celebrate what makes them different without silencing others.

Whether it be the color of your skin, the way your hair naturally grows out of your scalp, the way you choose to love or be loved, the way you choose to identify yourself, a physical deformity, etc. Someone has decided to “other” you for something that is out of your control.

At Shades of Womxn, we want you to stand proud in your otherness. Honor what makes you different, unique and beautiful. Celebrate who you are out loud! Our collective will be right there to celebrate along with you.

What We Believe

Shades of Womxn believes in the power of community: that all women, (cis, femme, trans and any person who identifies with the feminine experience) with special emphasis on marginalized communities, should gather as a collective to share our experiences and to help each other heal.

We believe it should be commonplace to discuss sexuality, sensuality, lifestyle, body positivity, emotions, desires or anything else with our girlfriends and sister circles; to find that we all share common experiences, even though we come from very different cultures and backgrounds.

We believe that womxn should prioritize self-care and self-love for ourselves.

We believe womxn should step outside of their comfort zones

We believe that womxn should see themselves; really see themselves for the true wonders that they are and that we should see ourselves represented always and in all ways.
