Founder
Growing up, I preferred dealing with boys rather than girls. As I get older, I crave sisterhood more than ever. I now understand the importance of creating community with other womxn. But how do you build friendships outside of work and school? Enter our Sister Friend Program.
When I initially started with the idea of Shades of Womxn, it was supposed to be my love letter to black womxn and black womxn only. I am a black womxn and black womxn are who I celebrate on a regular basis.
Then I started thinking about all the other minority womxn, womxn who like me have felt “othered” for varying reasons. How could I be more inclusive without diminishing what each individual womxn brings to the table? How can I amplify black womxn while still giving others a voice?
Then it hit me, why not vocalize who I am out loud with other womxn who vocalize who they are out loud. Celebrating who you are as a womxn with other womxn celebrating who they are; without diminishing others. This is the mission of Shades of Womxn.
